zentangle: spiral paradox

I love paradox though it usually takes me a while to find my rhythm with it.  But I've never used a spiral string and this very angular tangle didn't seem to want to fill the string easily.  None-the-less, I managed to find a way.  The first one is very literal and without much fanfare or interest.  The second one was a little braver and more interesting I think (looks like tumbling paradoxes).

zentangle: golven

The Diva challenge #61 by Laura this week was to use Golven, the tangle designed by Mariet.

My two efforts:  Top one uses golven, ennies, apiary, jetties and coil while the bottom uses golven, shattuck and a couple no-name (arches and the dandelion type flowers).

zentangle: duo tangles

I haven't participated in awhile, so it's overdue.....zentangle challenge #60 by Laura at I am the Diva is to make a tile using only the tangles cirquital and muchkin.  As you might suspect, cirquital is the circular pattern and muchkin is the lined triangles one.

I've tried cirquital before and found it difficult to do - it's hard for me to get those prongs evenly spaced enough to have the points be in a negative space.  However, I love munchkin - easy and rewarding and a great fill tangle.

zentangle: diamonds #58

Challenge #58 is to use the diamond logo created by the Millard's to represent the fight against pediatric cancer. We were also encouraged to use diamond-ish tangles in the work.  You can read more about the organization and their goals to fight cancer here.
here's the logo we were to incorporate/interpret

I tried several versions, getting progressively looser & more interpretive rather than literal.  I love how Laura finds and creates awareness for various causes by encouraging the zentangle community to draw, draw, draw.

zentangle: sanibelle #57

Challenge #57 from Laura over at I am the Diva is to use the tangle Sanibelle (designed by CZT Tricia).  Though I finished it a couple days ago, I'm finally getting around to posting it.  It's a fun and easy tangle - think it would lend itself well to color though I didn't try that.  I did experiment with scale a bit.....

The top one is only sanibelle (with a few circles) and the bottom has prestwood & artoo added.  Quick and easy this week....

zentangle: left hand #56

I missed the last couple Zentangle prompts, so was feeling the need to get out pen and paper again.  This week's challenge from Laura was to use our non-dominant hand (left hand for me) and tangle away.  Well, it was definitely hard and I discovered I do straight lines MUCH better than curvy.  In case you can't tell, the top one is my left handed tangling and the lower one I did the normal way to restore my confidence! :)

Be sure to visit Laura's site and check out all the other creative zentangles this week.

zentangle: purple

This week's zentangle challenge:  incorporate purple in your tangles or as the background, use a purple pen, etc.

Tangles in top tile:  drupe, hollibaugh (on black), shard and sort of a crescent moon on the ribbons; bottom:  mooka, phuds and some random curliques and I don't know what the main swoosh is or if it has a name....it just sort of evolved.

In the top tile I only added purple on the inside of the drupe tangle and I used a pen so it's very dark, almost black.  In the lower one I used my purple Inktense pencil and then moistened it with my water brush.  I like how organic both of these turned out, though I'm sure if the purple enhanced my particular drawings.  To see other zentangles with purple, visit I am the Diva for challenge #54.....

zentangle: fife

This week's challenge posed by Laura at I am the Diva is to use the new tangle Fife. I found this to be an easy and satisfying tangle - I tried it big and small and shaded and with different fills - it's full of possibility.

Since I'm still toying with the idea of making my own cards this year (doesn't Zentangle just scream out to be used in a card??), I tried Fife to fill in a stocking (traced the size of my card so I'd get an idea of how big things should be) and then in a more traditional tile format.

Top tangles:  SOCC, Fife, Mooka, Hibred, Diamond Panes & Nightsbridge; Bottom tangles: Paradox, Jonqual, Fife and SOOC

Tangles: Fife, Purk, some version of Coaster in the heel & Nightsbridge

I haven't taken the time recently to just sit down and practice my tangles (which shows a little bit here with uneven sizes) but doing these sure reminded me how much I enjoy it!  There are certainly a few goober mistakes in each, but they were so relaxing and satisfying in spite of that - one of the joys of tangling I think.

I'm also linking to Erin at the Bright Owl for a drawing she's holding for some Derwent pencils.  Be sure to visit her & try out her SOCC tangle (similar to Puf) and maybe you'll be a winner.
