scavenger hunt

I'm getting this posted a little late so there will probably be 100 links ahead of me....but this week had some fun themes.  As a reminder, Ashley posts 5 theme topics each Sunday and you have all week to take the pictures and post them the following Sunday.

Vintage:

I did a "vintage" collage of my parents before they got married that I submitted for the IA challenge yesterday, so today I just pulled up one of me with them (vintage is anything over 40 years old and this picture is definitely over that!).  No ruffles for me these days, but it was pretty cute then :)

Word or Quote:

A vignette in my house - one of my fave quotes of all time!

Nature's Own:

Mother nature is sure confused the last few days here in the NW (I guess pretty much everywhere - 80 in Chicago in March, really?!) and we had snow on the daffodils!  In the middle of March!

People:

You'll have to forgive me if I've shared this one before, but these are my 3 favorite people and it's hard to get them together for a challenge photo, so had to run to the archives for this one!

Oh my, what do I put here?

In between snow flurries this week I did manage to get over to my favorite little hidden gem of a garden and see what's starting to sprout.  Not much yet, but I do love the contrast of this red plant growing out of this old stump.

scavenger hunt

After missing a couple weeks, I'm back with Ashley's scavenger hunt Sunday.  This week's 5 topics are:

Technology:

The technology of photo processing - where would I be without it?  (from my archives, notice the hair color difference?)

Mismatch:

These photos could also have worked for showing my style I guess - which is all about the mismatch....my mantel decor is always filled with random, mismatched accessories gathered from around the house.  Above I was playing around with several different ideas for a spring look - which do you think I kept?

Routine:

Not so unusual - my morning routine is oatmeal and a book.  Always, a book.

Music:

I often use pieces of sheet music as a background beginning for a collage - I love to have it play hide and seek with whatever ends up on top.  In this case, it was a collage for my mother-in-law who loves horses.

Show me Your Style:

Instead of showing my clothing style - boring and pretty conservative, no cool shoes or bags - I'll show my house style.  This photo speaks volumes (pun intended :) about me.  Filled withh my favorite books, travel and family mementos, it's a map of my life (and my style).

If it's Sunday, it must be Scavenger Hunt day over at Ashley's.  There are SO many cool participants, you should visit some of the links.  If you'll remember, last week  I made a lightbox in response to her challenge so I wanted to experiment some more with it this week.  Most of my shots use my lightbox set up.

The lighting in my lightbox still seems a little unreliable and definitely not white enough. I think I need to work on trying different light sources - something brighter.  But for now, it's fun to have this as an option for small still life type photos.

I pulled from my archives for these - I LOVE repeating patterns and found it hard to pick just one (or two for that matter) but I'll follow the spirit of the prompt and stop here.  Can't wait to see other folks' patterns.

scavenger hunt sunday #4

It's Sunday, so it must be time to gather my photos for Ashley's scavenger hunt.  This week was filled with great themes again - except nativity.  I don't have any and didn't find any at neighborhood churches yet, so I had to get a bit creative.....

LESS IS MORE

This was tough - for me at Christmas, there's no such thing as "less is more"!  So I played with crumpling the sparkly fabric I put under my santa chollection...

HOLIDAY LIGHTS

I've done some experimenting with this prompt and also because Kat over at KatEyeView (if you haven't discovered her blog yet, it's definitely worth your time!) has this prompt for the next couple weeks.  While none are turning out as well as I the pic in my head, I feel like I'm making progress with intentional captures.

ORNAMENTS

I took many shots for this prompt and these two are my favorite - probably because they're of special ornaments - the pink bird I've had as "my" special ornament for probably 50 years. It had lost most of it's feathers so last year I did a little tail feather repair.  The other is one of the few left from my mom.

CUP OF CHEER

I feel like this was a successful shot and I even liked the selective color version with the touch of texture (by Kim Klassen).

NATIVITY

I used photos from violscaper and walwyn (Tewkesbury Abbey) on flickr as the starting point for this photo art then added textures by Shadowhouse and a little brush work.

As a newbie to the scavenger hunt experience, I kept forgetting the prompts as I snapped away at other subjects.  So some of these might require a little imagination to make them fit the prompts, but I'm game if you are.  I don't want to miss out so early in the 'game'.  You can see more hunters at Ashley's site, Ramblings & Photos.

PORTRAIT
This is one I actually took purposefully, for this prompt....then adjusted it with some textures.

NOSTALGIC
As my oldest son approaches 30 next month, I find myself nostalgic for the days when he was little, huggable and so cute!  Here he is with my dad who I wish was still here to see what a fine person his grandson became.  (a badly scanned image, sorry)

TIME
I love photographing rusty, peeling things that show the passage of time.  There's infinite texture and history in each of these kinds of photos and I enjoy trying to capture those details.

FULL OF LIGHT

We visited Montreal in October while on vacation and the botanical garden was having a 'festival of lights' in the Chinese garden.  The reflecting pool made for some fantastic reflections.

MOTION
A totally fun experiment of moving the camera while photographing the tree lights.
