Hot pink and orange - now there are some summer colors! Kristin at Twinkle Twinkle is kicking off another 6 weeks of color prompts to play with through the summer. And, they're based on ice cream colors. What could be more summery?
Her inspirational image this week is this rainbow sherbet. Although I'm actually not much of an ice cream fan, I do love the colors, so.......
Here I'm channeling my Jane Davies - love her style and how she uses big swaths of black...... (I'm trying to work in taking her class in October in Portland - anyone else going?)
Obviously feeling very abstract the last couple days. I bought a bottle of ink that I wanted to try with a brush instead of a dropper so that was the beginning of my first effort on 6x9 watercolor paper. The second, in my journal, is tissue papers, washi, paint, oil pastel crayons and the diamond grid is a stencil using a rubber sink protector from the dollar store. The opposite page has the reverse where I cleaned it off - just waiting for my next inspiration....
Looks like a lot of rainbow sherbet!!!! :D :D
ReplyDeleteOh these are my colors too! Yum, yum Terrie. I love orange and pink and pink and orange and the whites and blacks for contrast. Nice. xox
ReplyDeleteThat sherbet looks so pretty! Love how it inspired you to paint that page!
ReplyDeleteI'm playing along with summer of color too and was so excited to see this combo as our first prompt. haven't managed my blog post about it yet. hopefully later today. in my alternate-universe I'll be joining you for the Jane Davies class in Portland. (a favorite artist in a favorite city and a chance to meet a favorite blogger? that's the trifecta) in my real universe I will stay in Massachusetts and eagerly wait to see what you learned from the experience.
ReplyDeleteYummy colours!
ReplyDeleteLove the color prompt. You can't help but have fun with those colors. Your abstract pieces are great. The first one totally made me think of Jane. Hope you're able to get into her class. Portland huh? It's not that far....
ReplyDeleteLove how the tissue paper folds on itself and creates more layers and color variations-wonderful art!
ReplyDeleteWonderful work - the black looks so good against those colours, and I love the journal page - really love the texture of it - beautiful work
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of using tissue paper in this way. Inspiring!

Beautiful! I love the combination of geometric shapes and those free flowing lines- LOVE it!
ReplyDeletenot much of an ice cream lover, and you fold fitted sheets... getting more and more concerned... I have actually been known to do the roll and stuff while eating and ice cream!!!... if your work wasn't looking so gorgeous then I would be a bit worried about you... I love that top one and can't wait to see what you learn when you go to the course... it is going to have spectacular results...xx
ReplyDeleteVery very bright and refreshing!
ReplyDeleteBoth bright and poppy abstracts...Fun pieces...xxx
ReplyDeleteLoving both of these - the black just leaps off the screen.

ReplyDeletei love the bold black against the bright colors. the class sounds wonderful!
Wild textures!
ReplyDeleteum, I'm going to Art and Soul. Is this where she is teaching? I will look into her class. ...I am loving this piece very very much!
ReplyDeleteI live in Colorado actually. I am going to stay in Portland for a few days for the retreat! I am taking Jesse Reno's class for sure and still have to add another, probably Mindy Lacefield.
ReplyDeleteI like these two abstracts and the great colors you used.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. The only reason that I was able to get more than one piece done is that they were all pretty small. I want to at lest paint a page in my journal and do a small quilt for each challenge this summer.
