icad #13-15

A few days of ICAD (hosted by Tammy @ Daisy Yellow)

I used some scrap paper I had punched circles from and my spritz ink to make the backgrounds.

I love seeing what others are doing with their index cards.....and I love that it's only 5-10 minutes a day usually.  FUN!

I had the bright idea to make a mosaic of my 365 collages each month as I go along.  Here's January.  I used the free mosaic maker at Big Huge Labs - it pulls images from flickr or facebook so it's a simple way to make a mosaic.  These have been posted here or if you missed them and want to see the full collage, I have a flickr set just for the 365.  This mosaic obviously clips some of each image cuz most of my collages are not square....

Here's February

365 in 2013 and ICAD

I've used several ways to keep up (and almost catch up) with my 365 collages......mail art went out, ICAD is keeping me motivated and then an actual collage for no reason except to continue to experiment with the style.

#154 -  Go This Way  (ICAD #10) - using part of Corrine's envelope (great magazine page Corrine!) and a photo I took (the numbers are a tag on a phone pole) printed on vellum

#155 - Freak  (ICAD #11) used random papers and an image from a postcard

 #156 - Circle Scribbles  (ICAD #12 -today's)

#157 - In A Hurry  - a paper napkin flower, stamped tissue from Karen, random painted papers and some polka dot birthday wrap

Finding time to be creative is challenging at most times but seems more difficult in the summer when the nice weather draws us outside.  I just need to incorporate being outside with being creative....hmmmmm :)

365 in 2013: #144 - 153

Most of my collages this week are double duty pieces so far.  My mail art "respond" pile is getting a little out of control, so some of my collages are going in the mail.  My restraint journal (thanks to Hanna for the idea) inspiration pieces were REALLY piled up so I had a marathon morning of making lots of simple collages - some of which I really liked.  I keep reminding myself that collage doesn't necessarily mean that every square inch of the substrate is covered......

#144 - So Much Better

Did you ever read the Griffin and Sabine books?  Remember the story was told in a series of correspondence? I came across 2 of the books at a yard sale and picked them up with the intention of using them as collage fodder. I'd forgotten how beautiful the books are!  Lots of images and words and envelopes and a treasure trove of fun stuff that you'll be seeing show up in my pieces.  #145 and 147 are using pieces from the books.

#145 - Handmade Postcards

#146 - Harold Hummingbird

#147 - Griffin & Sabine

#148 - restraint journal page (inspiration photos from online)

#149 - restraint journal

 #150 - restraint journal

 #151 - restraint journal

#152 - restraint journal - art image from a home decor magazine room, tissue paper, washi

#153 - restraint journal;  Donna Downey painting for inspiration

Still not caught up, but I'm working on it.......How's your 365 project shaping up?

Index Card A Day

Used a stamp I made for the background on each of these and played with different toppers....

What creative thing did you do today?

icad #5, 6 and some 365 collages

Two collages on my index cards today.  An experiment in flowers which I'm not in love with. Too busy for me.  Both are also counting as #142 and 143 in my 365 collages (love that double duty thing).

There's plenty of time to join in - and it's easy to do something creative with an index card, right?  Tammy at Daisy Yellow is hosting so visit her for details and inspiration.

icad #3 & 4

Just starting.....join in!   Index Card A Day (ICAD) hosted by Tammy at Daisy Yellow.

My day 3 and 4 (4 is doubling as a collage for my 365)

ICAD STARTS

Finally, something other than collages here.....Tammy has started her summer of ICAD creations again so for the months of June and July she's encouraging us to make a little piece of art every day.  You only need enough to fill an index card (3x5 or 4x6 is up to you).  Simple doodles or elaborate drawing, sketch of your back yard, practice your lettering, stitching or painting - it's all up to you. Make it quick so it fits into your busy summer days.  Check out more details at Daisy Yellow ....

I participated last year for the first time and found it wonderfully invigorating to be pulled to my art room or to grab a pen and doodle....every day.  Hope you'll join in the summer fun.....(or winter if that's what's going on in your hemisphere).  Don't be surprised if lots of my ICAD production is collages .... double duty, right?

To start with, no collaging - a doodle and then because time is short today, a quick scribble with my new oil pastels.  I picked them up for a pittance at a yard sale yesterday.

365 in 2013: #133 - 141

Here we go again ..... a few more collages.  I pulled out my Collage Lab book by Bee Shay to try some fresh approaches so these next efforts are as a result of randomly opening the Lab book and interpreting the lesson.

#133 - One More     (one more from veneer, not the book)

#134 - Graphics  - the Lab lesson was to make an initial composition using solid, geometric shapes then use the composition as a template for a collage using images. See the similarities between these two? The bird pic is a photo I took.

#135 - Graphics II -    here's the image interpretation of my template above; both of these were made on the cardboard from a Pepsi box and randomly painted

#136 - Garden Delight   - Lab #12 was to use tinted gesso to obscure part of the background (I used a vintage botanical print) and then add only a few collage elements

#137 - Texture Galore  - Lab #5 is about working with cardboard; cutting it, tearing it, making different shapes and then layering those elements - this one was fun.

#138 - Geometry   - no more Lab collages for now; just playing with shapes

#139 - Butterfly Dance  - napkin, paper towel that I cleaned brushes on, gifted painted papers on a lavender cardstock base (with a butterfly from wrapping paper).

#140 -  Triangles   - long and skinny cardboard covered with some of my nicer paper bits

#141 -  Sitting Alone   - Lots of thick textured papers and a bird cutout

After all the collages I posted this week, I'm still not caught up!  This is through 141 and if I were on target I'd be showing you #151.  But, only 10 behind.....I'll catch up soon, I just feel it!  Though this weekend is a busy one, I'll try to find time to make a few.

Teaser:  I started a mixed media piece last weekend too and have been working on it a little at a time.....it's interesting watching it develop.  I'm trying to make layers and layers of color, pattern, interest.  My tendency is to stop after 3 or 4 layers and think it's enough so I develop the 'top' layer or finished piece.  I'm going for 8-10 layers this time....I want to be drawn into the picture and be able to see all that wonderful depth.  It doesn't come naturally, but I'm going to persevere!  First photos to come soon.....

365 in 2013: #125 - 132

I work at a custom wood shop where we make custom cabinets and millwork, tables, desks, etc.  One of the benefits is I have is access to some cool wood scraps - I pick up veneer scraps of various woods all the time so thought I'd make a few of my 365 collages from veneer (plus they're for a cool swap Karen is hosting over at MMSA.....make your postcard using NO paper! - read about here and join in - you have til June 17)

#125 - Wood Postcard  - made of veneer for the MMSA 'no paper' collage postcard theme

#126 - Veneer Postcard #2

#127 - Veneer Postcard #3

#128 - Charmed  (made exclusively from a paper swap with Lorinda and Karen)

#129 - First Class (another using Lorinda & Karen papers - and I still have more!)

#130 - Passive in Purple  (I'm a big fan of purple and I love working on black) 5.5" x 5.5"

#131 - Stitched Scraps  - These next two were fun...I used my 5" square black cardstock and then just pulled random pieces out of my small scrap bin, stitching as I went along......no planning, little cutting, just building as I stitched.  Fun!

#132 - Aussie Stitches

Thanks for sticking with me as I play catch up - more coming soon.....it's been a busy weekend!
