I haven't participated in either one for a couple weeks so it felt good to have ideas percolating around the back of my brain til I felt like I'd found the right one. For IA, I drew my funky little dragonflies on a sheet of spattered scrap paper then doodled on them a little. The background is an advertising postcard (8x5") that I covered with crumpled foil then painted with acrylic - then I lightly sanded the paint off the tops of the foil creases for a great, subtle shine with the bits of silver showing through (which totally does NOT come through on the scanner). The little teal 'frame' was sent to me by a generous mail art friend.
Doesn't the foil make amazing texture? I held it to the postcard with matte medium.
Then Jenn's juicy challenge. I struggled more with this one because most of the juicy things I could think of, I'm unable to draw. So I retreated to one of my faves.....the pear. However, I did sort of try a different look....it's on watercolor paper, watercolors, oil pastels, stamp ink dots.
Join either or both of these challenges - each week they give great suggestions and such fun people join in. To see what others have done for the challenge be sure and check out the links at each site.
Oh that dragonfly piece is just yummy, and the pear is too! Both juicy....xox
ReplyDeleteI love the texture that you got from the foil. Then I look down the page at your last post and your journal blows me away with all the three dimensionalism (I don't think that is a word, but it should be). I have this wonderful wire frame work that I picked up at a garage sell. I have been wanting to make a unique mobile with it and your circles cut from pages inspired me. In fact your blog is nothing short of amazing art and inspiration. Thank you, Connie :)
ReplyDeleteOh Terrie - the foil! That is just so cool. I can't wait to try that on something. you are a non-stop source of inspiration.
ReplyDeletehi terrie! i was happy to see your smiling face when i came to this post. i never really know where i'm going to end up :) i had forgotten about the dragonfly IA challenge, i'm so far behind, i love your dragonflies and the textured foil adds so much - it's beautiful! i know what you mean about the scanner - it never seems to pick up the sparkles and shiny parts.
ReplyDeleteyour pear looks good enough to eat! i like the pink dots on the side - reminds me of donna salazar's artwork. you did a beautiful job!
Loving both your journal pieces, beautiful work. Annette x
ReplyDeleteBoth are great! I love dragonflies and the pear is definitely juicy.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend. :):)
Both are really nice! The foil gives a lot of great texture!
ReplyDeletethat's a great juicy pear, singing to the choir here, love pears AND turquoise. I don't know why I haven't done a dragonfly, I always see then in art, like your lovely piece, and think they're magical. Gotta get on that, lol.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Jenn
I did not know I could be doing that with foil! I love the way it looks and must try soon! Thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThe foil is a cool texture and I was all excited that you had been eating dragonflies... not that I think they would be that juicy ... more squishy with a pop I would think... and those wings would have to be hard to get down... I remember getting chocolate covered ants for my 21st... now they were quite odd!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe dots are just marvelous - such interesting backgrounds. I really like both the dragon flies and the pear.
ReplyDeleteI love them both. That foil sure does make a great texture, what a great idea. The colour of that pear is gorgeous, it really does look juicy. Your word juicy is really cool too, you have beautiful writing.
ReplyDeleteVon
Both are juicy, indeed Terrie!
ReplyDeleteWonderful artwork. ~xx
Yes, I agree... love the texture that foil creates.
Using this material is challenging & fun!!
I created a journal page using aluminum foil.
I really struggled getting it to stick, at first. ((LOL)) :]
Stunning dragonflies indeed and the background is awesome.
ReplyDeleteYour pear is fabulous and I love how you decorated 'Juicy' :0)
BEautimous, Terrie. I had a good laugh with Juicy Dragonflies. reminded me of a time when I was ummmmmmm... 10-ish, and got a microscope from someone, a really cool old one in a wooden case and somehow there were chocolate covered insects to eat. go figure, that is a fuzzy memory, but it popped right up on my brain screen when I read your title!!
ReplyDeleteI love how you've used the foil as texture. it is funny that you posted this just after I'd come across some foil in an envelope I was recycling with some art gifties for my friend. I thought, AH-HAH, that's what I saved that for!! and NOT 10 minutes later I saw your post!! I am just getting to the lot of them Now, but your inspiration carried me through a long day yesterday. so thank you!!
The foil is awesome, really love all that texture, and your little dragonflies are very creative. The pear is very juicy, yum! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice touch using the foil, great texture. Loving the JUICY Pear as well!
ReplyDeleteA fantastic use of imagery and materials- very creative!
ReplyDeleteI love the energy in your pear painting. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI love the texture and colours in your dragonfly postcard. The foil does give an amazing texture. x
ReplyDeleteNow I would never have thought to use foil...see I've got so much to learn ;D
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic pair! (hehe couldn't resist sorry) :D
Both pieces are so creative and show your versitile talent!
Two wonderful responses to two great art challenges. I like how you used foil for texture, and I agree it never shows up on a scanner.
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm so late getting here. Still fighting a computer virus. Hope the rest of your weekend is artful.
I am going to try this foil texture soon...I love the look. I find also that if I use muted colors I am not drawn to those pages quite as much as I am the bright colors.
