put the lime in the coconut

Well, I can't quite manage drawing a coconut, but I can use the color lime and pair it with turquoise to make Jenn happy.  Her favorite color combo, turquoise/lime, is the theme for this week's challenge at APR#21.

My first attempts were to make some mail art - I'll use it someday soon since I have much to return.  The first is a recycled oversize ad postcard and the second a recycled greeting card with paint and collage (the butterfly shape was cut from a quilt book I have).

Somehow these didn't feel like 'enough' but I was struggling for a topic.  Then I realized that Jenn also was the host over at Inspiration Avenue and set this week's challenge as something using Zentangle.  Inspiration struck and I combined the two challenges:

My scanner doesn't scan full bed so clipped the right edge about an inch, but you get the idea.  Watercolor background with sprays, drips and splashes then doodled following the shapes that showed up.  The sentiment seemed appropriate for summer - something I know many of us wish we had more time for.

  4. Beautiful work Terrie, I love them all. What a fab cheery (yet calming!) colour scheme to work with, can see you had fun. I love the sentiment on your last one, really takes me back to my childhood school summer holidays when I used to play around in a field up the road from home, did a lot of lying in the grass cloud watching to see where my imagination would take me, lovely memories.
    Big hugs x x x x

  11. I love these, Jenn sure knows how to pick a colour. Your zentangles are fabulous and that butterfly is really great. I can't lay in my grass, we have too many chickens and ibis, if you get my drift :)
    Have a great week.

  12. They're all fantastic Terrie,
The colours works so well together...and then you Zentangled them beautifully :D
I wish I could lie on the grass but I'd get very soggy...we've even had a little hail storm this morning. It's ridiculous because the birds were collecting their nesting material yesterday! Oh for summer....sigh!
Enjoy your week...have a great creative time x

  19. So wait a minute...when you get advertising cards in the mail, you use them as your substrate for your own art? Do you first cover them with your own papers, or gesso if you are applying paint?? Your work just fascinates me! So much talent! Great colors and designs this week! I will have to check out Jenn's IA because I have a Zentangle project just midway. Thanks for sharing your art and process.

  20. Oh, every time I hear the words "lime" or "coconut", I get that song stuck in my head! I don't really mind though... I love the song and there are a lot worse ones to be stuck on lol.

I love these cool colors with the little splash of magenta. Beautiful patterns and textures, so graphic!
