This week's challenge over at Inspiration Avenue is "art nouveau". As an interior designer I'm very aware of the stylistic influences of art nouveau, but as an artist, it's not really my style. Well, I might be wrong about that.
My first thought about what to create was a woman with the wavy, curvy hair.....but I can't draw and certainly not a person. So, after a little googling, I was reminded of all the floral designs of the era and went more that direction (though now that I look at my piece there's nary a flower in sight).
Drawn in my 8.5x5" notebook, this small drawing was fun and maybe more my style than I thought because I love all the curvy, organic shapes. I used some of the zentangle principles of creating "behind" so that the vines were winding behind and layers were created.
Be sure to visit Inspiration Avenue and see all the other talented artists.
Art Nouveau is one of my favourite styles but haven't got around to do it myself but with Zentangle's help, one day, I will try it. Lovely to see someone to give it a go. Thank you for sharing your work with everyone.
ReplyDeleteI love the curvy organic vines and shapes. It works really well in black and white!
ReplyDeleteWow so innovative! I love the lettering - you could create a new font!!
ReplyDeleteI like how you curved the tendrils around & behind everything as well as that fabulous lettering! Very unique!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful example of Art Nouveau. It shows the whiplash effect and nature all in one gorgeous piece of art. Add the zentangles and you have a work of TIMELESS beauty.
ReplyDeleteArt Nouveau zentangle... why didn't I think of that!!! I think they would have been zentangling all over the place back then if they had known about it, and the bloomy parts and the compoistion are just perfect!!! Very very cool xx
ReplyDeleteThis is so 'Art Nouveau' You've managed to capture the essence without a red head, brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by me blog and leaving a comment. I love seeing all the different iterations this theme has caused too.
